Week 9 15/01/14 - South Park area, Red Deer Moor Herd and High View Points

Photo Blog Week 9 - Wed 15 Jan 2014

A very soggy slippery day. Ground water has reached the point it has nowhere to go.

route: Pursefield Wood to Paddock Cottage

plenty of water in stream next to road to The Knott car park

too much water and mud on tracks

route: Paddock Cottage to Poynton Brook and Westpark Gate track

Rock outcrop over Cluse Hey, SW from Paddock Cottage
View West along CLuse Hey from Racks
The Drystone seat earlier post watched being built is now finished. A wide open view across Cheshire Plain and Manchester

Path start not far from Westparkgate. You wouldn't think it but the path to right becomesnarrow and lethally slippery  whereas, climbing the roots to left of tree is the start of a good path up toward Paddock Cottage.

route: Westpark track, the Knott to Timberyard

Invasive Rhododendrons are being cut back to allow native species to return including bluebells.
* for more information on Rhododendron see official Lyme Park Rangers Blog

Daisies a little confused about the season

 Amazing fungus.

route: Drinkwater Meadow, Knighslow Wood, Bowstone Gate

Red Deer Moor Herd

There's always one! Standing on your food is showing off.

A nice mix of ages and sexes. The Moor Herd does seem to behave like one big family.

Aeriels at Bowstonegate Farm and the ridge out to Sponds Hill (outside the Park)

route: East along Boundary Wall, Lantern Wood

This memorial is at the highest point in the Park on the boundry wall between Bowstonegate Fm and Lantern Wood. Standing on the step so you see over the wall provides a full 360 degree view.
Jodrell Bank Lovell Telescope on horizon just in from left
Difficult to see, slightly better on original size which can be open by clicking the image.
 Lantern Wood

Chapel en le Frith from the edge of Lantern Wood

The Lantern

More amazing fungus. This is the size of a large dinner plate

Deer Leap linking Park Moor with Lantern Wood

route: South to Park Moor, Turf House Meadow front of Hall to Car Park

Rockferry Power Station on the horizon to West. Not always visible and not very clear today.

4hr 45min - returning to car with blue sky
