Week 31 23/07/2014 - Feeling Hot, hot, hot

Photo Blog Week 31- Wed 23July 2014

Wow, that was a warm one. A beautiful sunny day at Lyme Park which, with many schools now finished for summer, was full of families enjoying time together.

route: Hall North Face; Stables; Cage Hill; Coalpit Wood; East Lodge; Main Car Park; Mill Pond; Timberyard (morning)

The Stables

Blue skies over Derbyshire. Kinder Scout at Right.

The Cage (postcard shot)

"Vive Hodie"
Live today. Don't count on living tomorrow.

Sweet Chestnut catkins

Central area of the Park near the Main Car Park, Mill Pond and Timberyard.

This area is for many the only part of the Park that they see, many today enjoying picnics, paddling in the stream, sitting with a drink by the Timberyard, watching the ducks on the Mill Pond and, of course, heading over to Crow Wood play scape.

The big golden Carp in the Mill Pond coasting around.

Family Fun by the Mill Pond

Nature's Artwork: Sun creating shadows and highlights on bleached tree remains

route: Timberyard; Turtle Brew; Main Car Park; Drinkwater Meadow; Knightslow Wood; Park Moor

There are Lilies on the Mill Pond but in an area where there is no access to the bank

Even though a lot more busy than Wednesdays normally are, the Main Car Park shows that it's actually quite empty.

Path up Drinkwater Meadow toward Knightslow Wood

Major Den enterprise.
I suspect adults had a hand in this one.

Green hills and blue skies through the trees at the edge of The Meadow

Small path across the middle of Knightslow Wood winds up and down

route: Bottom of Moor path; by Hampers Wood; Lantern Wood via Deer Leap; The Lantern

Park Moor

Along the bottom of The Moor by the wall bounding Hampers Wood

The yellow Tormenil flowers are still lighting up the grassland; here with Rock, algae and butterflies

I think a Large Heath but not certain

This section up alongside Lantern Wood is for some reason one of the more taxing climbs in the Park

Turf House Meadow and the Archery Field

Looking back down that climb. Definitely some height gained.

Mushroom (of some unknown variety)

Deer Leap into Lantern Wood.
This Leap, together with a similar one the far side of Lantern Wood, enables interaction between the Red Deer Park and Moor herds.

Parts of Lantern Wood have smaller trees than other woods leading to lush green woodland floors

The Lantern appears quite suddenly from this path.

Rangers Craig and Dan have very successfully removed the graffiti that has spoilt the inside of the Lantern for some time

route:The Lantern; Caters Slack; East Lodge drive; Sables; Main Car Park (end)

I like the profile of Ladder Stiles, especially with blue sky

Three Zoom levels

These three shots are from the Ladder Stile exiting Lantern Wood to Caters Slack.
